My wine confession

July 11th, 2008

1 box = 4 bottles…it’s really just a space saverI drink a decent amount of wine. If you ask my husband, he’d probably say “excessive” amount, but whatever. So my friend Wendee and I have recently discovered the joys of box wine. There. It’s out. I buy box wine. I used to make fun of it, but they say it’s really getting better in quality…they do say that don’t they? I used to be kind of a wine snob. Well, as much of a wine snob as someone who doesn’t have the money to really be a wine snob can be.

But then slowly it started to change. It started with only buying my favorite wine on sale. Then I thought, I could probably find other wines I like for that amount. Then it was hit the “under $10″ that have good ratings. Then it was the Dorignac’s 3 for $10 sales. And now…yep…box o’ wine for like $15.

It really wasn’t just about the money though. What sealed the deal was that Wendee pointed out that since there’s the equivalent to 4 bottles in one box…you could roll up to someone’s house for a bbq with only ONE box and they would never realize the 2 of you cleared FOUR bottles. Now you see the upside don’t you? Or you’re thinking you should forward me an AA meeting schedule. But it’s fine. No really.

So what’s after this box thing? Rotting grapes? Is that how low I go? I mean, I’ll do it if I have to. But in the mean time, this is my new fav box - it’s called “Wine for Grilling” and they have a white called “Wine for Chilling” - awesome, huh? You can get it at World Market, but I think only during the summer. Sorry the picture is so blurry. Stupid camera phone. Or maybe I was drunk.  :)   -Annette

p.s. You know the next step down after boxed wine is actually drinking wine out of glasses that strangers left behind on their table at restaurants… You know I ain’t hatin’ on the boxed wine, but I’m just sayin’ :-) Your AA buddy, Wendee
