St Joseph’s Day Altar

March 13th, 2008

St Joseph’s Day AltarSo you’ve heard of these? I heard about them a couple of years ago, but never before I moved to New Orleans. Now I’m married to a half-Italian family and we’re going to one this weekend. What am I supposed to do? I know they’ve been baking cookies for the last few weeks…so I’ve already missed that (lucky me!). What do I bring? Bread shaped like a cross? Pasta without meat? Just some other pastries? Wine? Not wine? My husband tells me “don’t bring anything,” but he says that anytime we go anywhere. Why do guys never want to bring something? Anyway, if you have ideas…I’d LOVE to hear them (you can post a comment or email me at awade@entercom.com). The altar is on Sunday and if the item I need to bring can be found pre-made at Dorignacs - then that’s even better. -Annette

bring wine… yes bring wine .. believe me i have been raised Scillian since birth and have been immersed in the culture you can never have enough good Italian wine at any family dinner .. other than that if its baking or cooking stuff you want to bring trust me on this … leave that up to all the little old ladies they have been baking and cooking much more than cookies for the past 2 months in preparation of this .. lol

other than that to be prepared, bring an empty stomach, pace yourself()there will be lots o food, o lots o amazing food, TASTE EVERYTHING and .. dont forget to bring a blessed lucky bean with you to keep in your purse till next year!

    Ciao,
