My mom’s 60th birthday falls on Bacchus Sunday this year. So I told her I couldn’t fly out to San Antonio and see her, but if she wanted to come to Mardi Gras - I’d love to have her. She said yes. I was kinda surprised, but I think she’ll love to see her 1st Mardi Gras. But then I started to think about it. Can she put up (or keep up) with our drinking? Will she be okay with our Lundi Gras in the Quarter? I mean she grew up as a hippie, so she’s seen worse, right? But in the last 25 years…she’s pretty much just been in the Army…so will she still see the beauty in the looseness of the Gras? Is she fine with eating Popeyes chicken 3 days in a row? Will she be cool with my 5-days of binge drinking (those are the only ones she’ll see)?
I know moms from all over the area are the ones who drag their kids out to a parade and toss ‘em up on a ladder in order to lobby for more throws for mom herself, but these ladies grew up with it. It’s a way of life. I’m just starting to worry a little. But she’ll love it, right? I guess I’ll know starting Friday morning when her plain touches down. (fingers crossed)
