Dan Uggla Trade May Not Happen For the Giants

Just when you think the Giants have a shot at Dan Uggla, it looks like it’s not going to happen.

His $7 million price tag is too steep (?) for the Giants who have a Tim Lincecum extension to worry about. Not to mention, Jonathan Sanchez would be shipped to Florida, and that’s something they aren’t comfortable with either.

Lyle Overbay and Adam LaRoche are two options the team is looking at at first, with a few players at third they are considering as well.

How We See It-Latest On Giants and A’s Free Agency, Stadium In San Jose and More

There’s a new wrinkle in the Giants free agency chase. In fact, I’m sure you probably haven’t heard this one before. Also, where the Oakland A’s Jack Cust may end up, and the A’s want to move to San Jose now?

How We See It-A Look At Tim Lincecum, the Cy Young Race and the Future

Tim Lincecum wins the Cy Young Award in one of the closest races ever. You could argue either St. Louis Cardinals pitcher could have one, but came up short.

Me and Brian Lopez talked about this, his future and how he compares to the greats.

San Francisco Giants Starting Pitcher Options

Brad Penny doesn’t look like he’s going to factor into the Giants future plans. The word on the street has the Giants focused on a few other free agents to compliment Lincecum, Cain and Zito.

Names include the best risk/reward of the bunch in Ben Sheets. Sheets has been out of baseball for the last year due to a torn tendon. More affordable options like Erik Bedard and Rich Harden are also possibilities. Guys like John Lackey are pretty much a done deal for the Giants, who aren’t looking to pay big money for pitching.

Javon Walker Says to the Raiders, “I’m Outta Here”

Boy, that Javon Walker deal sure was sweet huh? $16 million to be a mentor for the other receivers for the Raiders. That’s a stroke of luck if you ask me.

I guess he’s now bored with collecting a paycheck while doing absolutely nothing. He’s asked for his release. He says-”It’s not that I can’t play; I can play. From everyone who sees me at practice, I still got it going on.” We will see if anybody in the NFL agrees with that assessment.

Derek Moore and Brian Lopez take a look at all of the latest rumors with the San Francisco Giants and Oakland A’s. There are a few interesting possibilities, especially for the Giants at catcher. The A’s need something at 1st and 3rd.

Highlights of Mike Singeltary’s Press Conference-11/2/09

Mike Singletary had his press conference on Monday, and as usual, there were a lot of points of interest.

He said that Joe Staley does not have a torn ACL, and he’s not putting Nate Clements on IR. Also, why the 49ers didn’t elect to run a spread offense more, if his support of jimmy Raye is as strong as it was at the beginning of the year, and his thoughts on the penalty after Vernon Davis caught that touchdown.

Jamarcus Russell and the Opportunity For the Raiders

2010 could mean a wide open salary cap in the NFL, which could present an opportunity for several teams. The most glaring of these comes in the form of the Oakland Raiders, who can dump Jamarcus Russell for only $3 million and get $15 million off the cap. I’d say that’s a win/win.

The other side of the equation-there are going to be a lot of free agents, but not necessarily a lot of talent available to choose from.

If you’re a Raider fan though, you ought to be overjoyed at that prospect. C’mon 2010!

It’s Official-Alex Smith Is Your New Starter

It had to happen. After what Alex Smith did against the Houston Texans on Sunday, he had to be named the starting quarterback of the 49ers, and now it’s officially happened.

Mike Singeltary said that this isn’t a week to week back and forth at the position either. This is permanent. Given the fact that the 49ers were 30th in offense, and had the most punts and 3 and outs in the league under Sean Hill, new life was needed. After Sunday’s success with the spread offense with Michael Crabtree, you can’t help but be excited for the future. Let’s just wait until after next week with the Colts.

Raiders Cable Won’t Be Punished

(photo-Paul Sakuma / Associated Press)

There just wasn’t enough evidence to bring down Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable, for allegedly beating his assistant coach senseless, according to reports.

Not only did it sound like Randy Hanson made up the story, which didn’t match any of the others in the room, but it sounded as if he had an axe to grind towards the Raiders organization.

“It should be further noted that within the past week and a half, Mr. Hanson showed up unannounced at the police department and made a statement to the effect that since the Raiders had not given him what he asked for, he would now fully cooperate with the prosecution,” said one of the investigators.

Fox Sports has more.
