CK on the softball diamond!

The 107.9 softball team finished off our regular season last night by beating Comcast Cable 13-5!  We finished with a record of 7-3-1, and are ready for the playoffs starting next week.  Way to go 107.9, good luck in the playoffs!  That’s me, the second guy from the left :)

Walkin’ On The Moon

It was 40 years ago today that the spaceship Apollo 11 took off for the moon!  There’s a website that is recreating the historical mission as if it were currently happening.  If you are interested in reliving the history, visit wechoosethemoon.org and follow the action exactly as it happened back in 1969!  You can listen to a live stream of the conversations between the ship and ground control, plus follow Apollo’s progress on the way to the moon.  Pretty cool!

The crazy video of MJ’s hair burning on the dance floor!

It’s unbelievable that this footage has been kept under wraps for 25 years, but here it is, the behind the scenes video of Michael Jackson’s hair catching on fire when he was filming the Pepsi commercial way back in 1984. Many people believe that it was because of this accident that he became hooked on pain killers, and got his started with his complete look-altering plastic surgeries.

Ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma ma coo what???

One of the positive results of all the hoopla surrounding Michael Jackson’s death is the fact that a lot of his music is getting played again more than it had been recently.  Which brings to mind a question that has been haunting many of us for a long, long time: what the heck is Michael saying during “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin” when he says the nonsensical line, ”ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa??”  Well, I found the answer!

The story goes like this.  Way back in 1972, an African pop star named Manu Dibango created a song called “Soul Makossa,” based on the Makossa, a Cameroonian dance.  In the song, Dibango stretched out the word “makossa” into “ma-mako, ma-ma-ssa, mako-makossa.”  Evidently Michael came across Dibango’s music at some point in the next decade, twisting the lyric yet again into what we hear in “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin.”  So now we know, Michael was singing “ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa,” which was a lot a random syllables added to the name of an African dance!  I’m sure you will sleep much better tonight knowing this musical tidbit!  Rihanna even used the lyric at the end of her hit “Don’t Stop The Music” a year ago or so, so Dibango’s music for a couple of reasons has found its way into the 21st century!

Is texting bad for your health??

Here’s a link to the interesting article I was talking about today, how sleep deprivation, perhaps from late nights of texting, is causing teens to have other problems in school.

Jessica dumped again!

There aren’t too many artists cool enough to have performed at both an EndFest AND a Jingle Ball, but Jessica Simpson is one of them.  Since she has lived her love life very much in the public eye the past ten years or so, there’s lots of mean people out there who love to poke fun at her misfortunes, but not me.  I’ve had the privilege of meeting her several times here at The End when she was still just an up-and-coming artist, and she was always very nice and friendly (don’t we look cute together??).  So that’s why I’m bummed that she’s going through another tough time in her life, as she was apparently dumped by her quarterback-boyfriend Tony Romo last week the night before her birthday!  Bad timing, dude!  But then again, quarterbacks aren’t generally known for treating their women well.  Jessica, I post this picture to remind you of happier times!  By the way, I’m not exactly sure why it looks like I have a fro in this pic, but they made me wear that stupid headband to help promote “Irresistible,” which was her new song at the time, way back in 2001!

Obama caught checking out a booty!

This is hilarious!  Check out or pres checking out the booty! Nice! Okay, maybe it the picture isn’t telling the true story, but it’s still funny :)

Oh no she didn’t!!

Brooke Hogan is releasing a new album soon, not sure why…, and on that album is a track titled “Ur Not That Hot.” Aimed at Heidi Montag, it begins with a Heidi impersonator ripping on Brooke, then Brooke retaliates during the course of the song.  The cause of this beef between the two stars? It’s not completely certain from her words in her Myspace blog, but at this point in time, who isn’t picking fights with Speidi? But I’m wondering if Brooke really have reason to be telling Heidi she’s not that hot, because she’s not so hot herself!

It’s an American Idol wedding!

The newest American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi, got married over the weekend in Maine of all places!  It was an intimate ceremony with only about 30 guests in attendance, and it’s probably safe to safe that Simon Cowell was not one of them.  Congratulations to Kara and her husband, Mike McCuddy.

After I heard this, I realized how it could be taken as somewhat odd that only 1 judge (Randy Jackson) was married previously to this, despite the fact the all 4 are certainly marryin’ age!  Paula was of course married and divorced twice within a snappy 6-year period in the 90s.  Think about that, getting married AND divorced not once but twice, and all within 6 years!  That can’t be easy to do!  Poor Paula.  I guess Simon and Paula just have to get hitched now so all our judges can live happily ever after!

Rihanna confused about how tattoo parlors work

Last night in New York, Rihanna was playing around at a tattoo parlor for a few hours when her long-time pal BangBang (quite the name…) decided that he wanted the pop star to give him a tattoo.  Sure, it was all fun and games, but also illegal!  Because Rihanna isn’t a licensed tattoo artist, she broke three health codes and may face 3 misdemeanors totaling near $2000.  The parlor, East Side Ink, will probably also face charges.  I guess next time a pop princess walks through their doors, they’ll think twice about letting her handle dangerous instruments and put some permament ink on someone’s body!
