Follow John Quincy Adams on Twitter!!

That’s right, former President John Quincy Adams, who has been dead for nearly 200 years, has a twitter page!  Now I’m personally not a big fan of the tweet, but I think this is pretty cool.  Evidently a high school student attending a museum in the Adams’ (John Quincy’s dad, John, was also President) home state of Massachusetts noticed that John Quincy’s diary entries were all quick and concise, much like today’s tweeting!  So the Massachusetts Historical Society got the brilliant idea to create a twitter page for our 6th president, and to update it with his daily diary posts from 1809 as he embarked on a diplomatic mission to Russia.  Follow the oldest person to have a twitter account at www.twitter.com/JQAdams_MHS

What to do this weekend!

Here are some ideas for fun things for you to do to get out of the house on another beautiful Northern California weekend!  The weather is supposed to be gorgeous, with highs in the lower 90s Saturday and Sunday.

A couple of summertime traditions continue downtown, with another Concert In The Park starting at 5:00 tonight at Cesar Chavez Plaza.  The Music Circus presents Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, with showings all three nights this weekend, plus a Saturday matinee.

This Saturday evening is another Second Saturday, where the masses descend upon midtown for the monthly art-walk.  Let’s be honest though, how many of us actually check out a gallery on Second Saturday?  It’s more of an excuse to have dinner and a fun evening out around lots and lots of people.  Although I’m sure the art is very nice, too!

The Rivercats are in town all weekend if you’d like to catch a ball game.  Tonight and Saturday starts at 7:00, with Sunday’s game beginning at 6:00.  There will be fireworks after the game on Saturday!

If you want to hit the road, it’s a perfect weekend for a roadtrip to Reno for Hot August Nights.  The annual classic-car show wraps up this weekend with lots of events and activities.  I mean, how often do you actually get to cruise legally anymore?  It’s a throwback to simpler times gone by this weekend in Reno.  If you want to pull off the freeway on your way up to Reno, Placer County is having the Heritage Trail Museum Event, where admission to all museums from Roseville to Auburn to Colfax all the way to Tahoe City is free all weekend.  Click here for more information.

New movies in theaters this weekend include GI Joe, Julie & Julia, and A Perfect Getaway.

Of course, leave your radio on 107-9 The End for all of your favorite songs wherever you’re off to this weekend!

Sad!! 80s movie director John Hughes died today

John Hughes was responsible for some of my favorite movies of all time, and he sadly passed away from a heart attack this morning at the age of 59.  Ferries Bueller’s Day Off and The Breakfast Club were probably my 2 favorites of his, but looking over his body of work will surely bring back as many good memories for you as it did for me.  He wrote so many movies in the 80’s and 90’s there was many I didn’t realize he was responsible for.  For instance, I had forgotten that he wrote all of the Home Alone movies (which I am happy to see I’ve never seen… just couldn’t stand the sight of Macaualy Culkin’s surpised look on the movie posters with his hands against his cheeks).  Here’s the impressive list of the movies John Hughes wrote over the years:
