Leave Tiger alone!!

Alright, I’m not crying like the crazy Britney dude, but is anyone else a little disturbed about the INTENSE amount of media coverage of Mr. Woods and his alleged infidelity? It is completely out of control!! Whatever happened to privacy in this country? I’ve heard a lot of people saying that, “if he would just come out and admit it then people would stop speculating about everything.” While that may be true, why does Tiger owe an explanation to anyone but his wife? It’s none of our business. And yes, I realize I’m sadly in the minority when I say that. Frankly, I’m impressed with Tiger for not wanting to address the matter with the vultures, I mean, tabloid media. If he indeed cheated on his wife, he’s got enough to deal with at home. And the fact that he is apparently more concerned about saving his marriage than worried about what we or the media think about him is very refreshing.

Jingle Ball 2009!

Wow, another memorable Jingle Ball yesterday at Memorial Auditorium! Justin Bieber crashing the stage during Cobra Starship’s set and rocking a drum solo was way cool. Boys Like Girls inviting pretty much the entire crowd on stage with them during “The Great Escape” also a time capsule moment. This is only the 2nd time Jingle Ball has been at Memorial (all the rest have been at Arco Arena). We actually held our very first Jingle Ball there way back in 1998! Of course you can see all the videos (including my interview with Justin Bieber) on a link from our main page, and if you’d like to see my personal photos from backstage and all around the show, check them out on my facebook page:. I had a great time meeting everybody before and after the show, and I’m still waiting to see lots more of my pics with you tagged on facebook!

Beggin’ for Backstage Passes!

Should I hook them up???

UPDATE: In case you didn’t hear it on the air… I did hook them up, and they got to meet all their favorite Jingle Ball stars!!

Adam Lambert and The Kiss… too soon?

Breaking news… Adam Lambert is gay!  Oh yeah, we had kind of already processed that tidbit months ago.  And were fine with it.  But lest it slip our minds, Adam made sure to remind us of that fact on Sunday night at the American Music Awards by locking lips with his keyboard player, a man!  Shock!  Shame!  Confusion!

Let’s all take a deep breath. Now that we’ve had a day for our feelings to simmer regarding The Kiss Heard Round The World, not to mention the Pelvic Thrusts Heard Round The World, and the Odd Pulling Of That Chick By Her Feet Round The Stage, how do we feel about Mr. Lambert’s performance?  First things first, it’s not like there most of that hasn’t been done on stage before. Britney has made a good living out of doing pretty much exactly that. Second, it’s not like there has never been any gay artists before.  That’s fine.  If you make music we like to listen to, I don’t think anyone cares about your orientation.  But when you start making out with other dudes on stage, we’re kinda forced to take notice and evaluate.  Suddenly, it’s not about your music anymore, it’s about you being gay.  And that’s where you, Adam Lambert, are treading dangerously.  You’re too good for this.  You don’t need to resort to shock value to get people to notice you.  Your voice does that for you.  You risk alienating a large amount of people who very well might have bought your CD or enjoyed your music on the radio (if it ever gets there) by shoving your orientation in their faces.  We’re all happy that you’re comfortable with your sexuality, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be, but the problem is that there are people who aren’t quite as comfortable with watching you being so comfortable with it.  ABC is certainly uncomfortable, and has now dumped him from his Good Morning America appearance and performance that was scheduled for Wednesday morning.  CBS, who could use the publicity, has immediately snatched him for their Early Show or whatever it’s called.

I’ll be honest, I was very much looking forward to Adam’s first single and how it might sound.  With his amazing voice, I legitimately thought he could come out with some sort of game-changing tune, and really take pop music to the next level.  Then “For Your Entertainment” arrived, his debut single (the song he performed at the AMA’s), and I sighed.  It was nothing special.  His record company has already realized that song is a dud, and has now begun focusing on another track (written by Pink) called “Whattya Want From Me.”

So Adam, I’ll consider that strike one.  You saw your first pitch as a Potential Rock Star, and you took a healthy swing at it.  But you swung and missed.  Please step out of the box and reconsider before you take your next swing, because there’s a lot of us who would very much like to enjoy your music.  I hope you give us that opportunity.

another LAME green week at NBC

If you were watching NBC last week, you probably noticed that it was “green week” on many of its shows. At this point we’re all so numb to the constant drumbeat of the “go green” message that we probably didn’t think anything of their shows environmental lean. But let’s pause to ponder what would drive NBC to color the peacock in the bottom corner of the screen green. The network NBC is owned by the General Electric company. GE, out of necessity, is one of the companies leading the charge toward renewable energy sources, and stands to earn billions of dollars in the future if we continue down the road of massive environmental policy change such as “cap and trade.” How? Because GE is hoping to create a side business of buying and selling these so-called “carbon credits” to businesses declared to be over some arbitrary emission limit. If this sounds like a scam which will hurt businesses and our nation’s economy, that’s because it most certainly is. But yet General Electric sees dollar signs, so it is obviously in their best interests to continue shoving the Humans-Are-Destroying-The-Planet!! message down our throats, as a means to their desired end of congressional legislation which would put this scam into motion. And what better way to do this than to have some of its most popular shows, such as 30 Rock and The Office, have episodes devoted to this green theme? The message was pretty low-key in The Office, for the most part restricted to Dwight Schrute’s opening sequence dressed up as Recyclops for Earth Day (which is in April, so the reference didn’t make a whole lot of sense in November). On the other hand, 30 Rock went full speed ahead with the message, as Jack (Alec Baldwin) instructed company page Kenneth to cut back on TGS’s (the fictitious show-within-the-show) “carbon footprint.” Kenneth immediately claimed to be a global warming doubter, which made perfect sense because even though he is a lovable character, he is often referred to as backwards and a simpleton. Environmentalists are often attempting to belittle doubters by shouting them down as unintelligent for not trusting the “overwhelming scientific proof” about global warming. 30 Rock even went so far as bringing back the blowhard himself, Al Gore (he was on 30 Rock two years ago with a similar message), to spout off his usual green diatribe that we “need to change our laws” to spur actual environmental change. Yes, the same Al Gore who is gaining enormous personal wealth by flying all over the world preaching his environmental doom-and-gloom scenarios to gullible audiences, and would most certainly find a way to profit handsomely, much like GE, if these law changes he is advocating were to ever happen. Conflict of interest much? Indeed.
In closing, I always have to remind everyone after I share my disagreements with global warming, that I actually do believe in helping the environment. We should all continue to recycle, turn off lights when we’re not in the room, turn off computer screens when we’re not using them, etc… saving energy and water (especially here in California) when you can makes all the sense in the world and we should all be doing our part. But I strongly disagree with the crazy “go green” mantra, Humans-Are-Destroying-The-Planet!!, California will be underwater in 10 years (which I’m pretty sure was threatened more than 10 years ago), you better change out your light bulbs or we’re all doing to die scare tactics. Thankfully, the Senate has pushed back dealing with any possible “cap and trade” legislation into at least next year. That is a good start.

Buy Edward Cullen’s house!

With the massive debut of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, you know that the movie studios will be selling all the merchandise they can to promote it!  Twilight t-shirts, buttons, bags and notebooks are everywhere!  Well, if that’s not good enough for you, how about living in the Twilight house?  That’s right, the sweet pad with all the windows that the Cullens call home can be yours!  The 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom mansion in Vancouver is now on the market for 3.3 million dollars.  I hope you’ve been saving up!

Mickey Mouse gets naughty??!!

Evidently, bosses at Disney are pretty seriously talking about “tweaking” the iconic Mickey Mouse’s image to make him more relevant to the younger generation. The first evidence of this shift is turning up in a new video game due out for the Wii next fall in which players can choose to make Mickey valiant and heroic or can choose to him to be well, wicked. The game developer of “Epic Mickey” stated to the New York Times, “Mickey is certainly never going to become evil and go around killing anybody, but I want him to be able to be naughty.” Wow! Mickey Mouse, naughty??
That got me to thinking, who stands to benefit most from Mickey’s new mischevious ways?
A- Disney executives (if the new Mickey’s merchandise sales surge through the roof)
B- generations of youth that now have yet another not-so-good role model to look up to
C- Minnie Mouse
Haha! What do you think of Mickey’s potential revamping??
