The other day I was on facebook when a friend of mine from college hit me up out of nowhere. I graduated from Angelo State University in 1997. So, it’s been 10+ years since I’ve seen my old friend Chris. We started messaging back and forth on facebook and he made comment that kind of put some things in perspective for me. He was commenting on some of the pictures that I had up on my facebook and mentioned that”I hadn’t changed a bit”. It’s kind of funny… I weigh a little less than I weighed when i graduated college. Chris still sees the guy from back in the day, because he hadn’t seen the guy I was for the last 10 years. The “bigger” version of Chase. The 235 pound version. He’ll always know me as the younger version of the person he sees in the latest pictures of me. It felt good….
Perhaps you’d like people to see the person you were back in the day? Maybe you’d like to be remembered by people from your past as the thinner version of you. June is the one year mark of when I started this journey. Although it’s not over for me, it’s good to reflect back on the hard work that i’ve put in. Looking to make a change? Start your journey by setting up a physical with a doctor today. The Greenville Hospital System can help you find one.
Oh yeah, and join the B93.7 Chase’s Challenge team on activateupstate.org
I work out 5 times a week and with each of those workouts, I listen to B93.7. Now, I understand that some people listen to i-pods and often folks ask me why I don’t own one. Well, I run a 100,000 watt i-pod for a living and don’t really need one. :) All the songs I want to listen to while I am working out are on the radio.
But, in case you own an i-pod and want to use it while working out, here’s the perfect B93.7 approved playlist for 30 minutes on the treadmill.
Kelly Clarkson-My life would suck without you
Flo Rida-In the ayer
TI/Justin-Dead and Gone
Kanye West-Heartless
Metro Station-Shake it
Lady GaGa-Just Dance
Jesse McCartney-How do you sleep
TI/Rihanna-Live your life
2 Pistols-She got it
Katy Perry-Hot N Cold
This block of music should do the trick if your looking for a balance of pop, hip hop and rock.
Went to lunch at TGI Friday’s yesterday on Woodruff. The waiter recognized me (honestly, that never happens) and said “hey, you’re the fitness guy on the radio”. I guess when you talk about this stuff long enough people take notice. Great to see the message is getting out there. It was kind of cool. He asked me a couple of things about what to eat/what not to. I wasn’t setting a great example, since I was eating a double cheese burger with bacon! lol It was one of those days that my body was craving something protein filled! :) I cant be good all the time! lol
Just thought it was cool to be noticed for being healthy. It used to be “Chase, you now that chubby guy from B93.7….no, he’s not as big as Tom Steele”.
All of us have a favorite shirt. Right? One that you wear a little more often than the others. Maybe because you look good in it? Maybe it’s just more comfortable or reminds of someone or something…
For years, I wore my Vans shirt. It was comfortable. I liked it. Had a cool hip/edge to it and went well with almost everything I owned. Well, I had to let em go this past weekend. Look over to the left and watch the video of my stack of clothes for the garage sale. In that heap of clothes was my favorite shirt. He deserved better than to be heaped into the pile with the “other” shirts. He was a part of my life for so long and now….alas…he is gone. Sold to somebody for $3. Sniff… VVVVAAAAANNNNN!!!!!!!
I put him on the other day as I was sorting my clothes. Van fit like a tarp on me! It was huge. Not even like a “we’ll its a good weekend shirt” big. Van swallowed me like the whale in Pinocchio!
Attached is a picture of Van. If you see him around on the back of some guy who wears an XL. Pat that man on the back…he may look at you funny, but Van will know. Oh he will know…sniff…. (as I pour a little of my low cal beer out on the curb)

Heidi Aiken said on the news this morning that 1 in 5 pre-school kids are considered to be obese! WOW! The whole story can be found on www.MSNBC.com. How crazy is that? As parents, I know it’s not always our fault. We’re just trying to get our picky little eaters to eat something. My daughter wont eat her dinner half the time, but she’ll never pass up on an order of McDonald’s french fries. I completely understand! yet, if we are feeding our kids so much of the bad stuff that they become obese….well, we might want to re-think some of our techniques! I know a lot of kids will grow out of the chubby phase, so some of these surveys you see are not completly accurate, but the statistics are enough to be of some concern.
Kids learn these eating habits from mom and dad. If we always make those french fries an option, the kid will always want the fries. Erin, my daughter, always wants to drink more juice than milk or eat one of her strawberry bars over some healthier alternative. I get it. Last thing we wanna do is fight with our kid after a long day of work. If Jr wants to dunk his candy in ketchup-let em! Idol is on tonight! lol If we give healthy options to the healthy meal they dont want to eat-that would be a win-win for us right?
Just thought I’d share that with you. It struck a cord with me this morning when Heidi spoke of it.
It’s time for the neighborhood garage sale. My closet is about to get cleaner! This morning, while trying to find a pair of khaki pants that would look good with my new shirt, I tried on 6 pair of pants. I realize that there is not way, regardless of the brand, I am every going to wear a 38-32 pair of pants again. So, come on down to Simpsonville next weekend if you’re looking for some big pants, a few XL shirts and a few 8 trax tapes!
I started this all in June of last year….what a difference less than a year makes.
Spring is here and if the weather would cooperate a little more, we could actually enjoy 2 days in a row of decent, non-rainy, weather. The lawn needs to be mowed and the garden needs to be planted! With the weather changes, I’ve decided to possibly change up my “look”. I just don’t know what that “look” might be. I shaved the patch of facial hair off a few months ago (see video on the left) and since losing some pounds, I’ve been able to wear some different clothes with a little more confidence. My wife and I argue all of the time on what my look should be. I think she wants me to stay with the collared shirt/button up look. I’m looking to go a little more “rocker”. Basically, I’m having a clothing identity crisis! When we go shopping we get into arguments about clothes. I think she might be trying to control me! Back when I was heavier, I’d wear whatever she told me to wear. Now that I can pull off a few more looks, she’s losing control of her dress up Ken doll! I usually end up giving in and buying the shirt she’d rather see me in. If you run into me anytime soon and hate what I’m wearing….blame my wife. I wanted to buy the t-shirt with skulls on it. Haha!
Went to Charleston this past weekend for our 9 year wedding anniversary! Got us a room at the Charleston Place hotel (the same place we stayed on our wedding night). Nice place-Just not $500 a night nice! It was symbolic, so the price didn’t matter. We left Erin with our friends for the night. This was the first time Christal and I spent the night without Erin. Christal managed not to cry at all during dinner, but when we called around 9pm to do our goodnight call-she managed to get thru the phone conversation without crying. As she hung up the phone-tears came down her cheeks. Anyone who is a parent can certainly relate! It was good to have a night where we could wake up whenever we wanted to. Without the yelling of “mommy” or “daddy” coming from the room at the end of the hallway. For the record-I’m pretty sure Erin had the time of her life and probably didn’t miss us at all! lol Our friends have a 3 year old, lots of toys and a big screen TV with lots of Dora videos! It was good to have an adult conversation with my wife. Even though 90% of the conversation was about Erin. Funny how that works huh?
Should have gotten that one on tape. Lots of cardio and lots of sweat. I realized today that the countdown to the “Summer of me being shirtless” is approaching very soon. I figure I got about 2 months to get into peak shirtless form. My weight is stable these days. We are looking for ways to take it up another level and perhaps drop a few more before summer. I’m very close to being a 34” in pants. I was a 32” in high school, so this would be a pretty major accomplishment. I started this process at a 38”. Look for another BMI video coming soon. I’d be fine staying at this weight, but I’m still looking for a little more “cut” in my appearance!
