Today I ran in sand! They added an extra workout zone to ASI on Patewood. Usually, after doing a workout on all the speed flex equipment, we go outside and do some form of running. Well, after a few weeks of construction, they turned the hillside around the facility into another workout zone. A sandy one! There looks to be a few different hills of various lengths that are covered in sand. We went up what I believe to be the middle one today. I was informed that there is a “big kid” hill on the other side. Upon looking at it, it appears that nobody has run up that one yet….yet! The hill is at about a 60 degree angle and the thick sand covers the area-about 20 yards in length. We ran up that hill, then turned to the right on a flat sandy surface and ran to a cone (25-ish yards from where we came up the hill), then ran across the area to another cone that was placed 30-ish yards from the other. We did this 5 times non-stop. Quite the workout! I’m sure my feet will be nice and smooth soon!
It’s great when they change it up. Just when your body seems to get into some sort of routine-you throw some sandy hills at it. I’m looking forward to Thursday’s workout. I’m bringing my Dora the explorer pail and shovel to make some sweet sand castles.
PS-I tweet about my workouts from time to time…@chaseb937.
I have ugly feet….Dont think I have all of these things. lol Still, sometimes your feet say more than you know.

The other day I worked out and only burned 500 calories. This is a big miss since I’m used to pulling around 800 per workout. In non-workout related terms, thats about 3 bud lights worth of difference! lol Turns out my body was too beat up to go kick into the next level. On Saturday I helped a friend move for 6 hours, did a bunch of stuff around the house on Sunday and then worked out Monday morning AND THEN played a softball game that night. By the time Tuesday came around, my body was wrecked. I guess rest is important huh? I was given orders not to workout on Wednesday, so that my body could rest. Worked out well for Wednesday-I almost hit 800 calories. Guess I’m back to normal. Hard to believe I went from not doing enough a little over a year ago to overworking. And yes, I’ll be hitting the gym Friday morning….dont worry, I dont plan on doing anything major this weekend.
The other night, singer/performer/songwriter Jason Derulo came by the station to have dinner with us and to talk about what he’s doing in music. He sings the song “Whatcha Say”. We were discussing many topics, but one that we talked the most about was our workouts. He is in great shape. Like the cover of GQ magazine shape. He watches every calorie that goes into his body and does some crazy stuff in the gym. Where I only do an hour a day-he works out 2-3 hours a day. He does it to look good for videos and such….I do it so I don’t get fat. lol
I was talking about working out with a group of people and how I try not to make it a competition. He turned to me and said “Chase, don’t fool yourself, it’s a competition”. He was right. It is. You look at the progress of others and measure yourself to that progress. Nobody wants to be the slowest runner of lift the lightest weight. We all want to be the best…and if you don’t, you never will be. It’s like making money-if you do the same job as someone else-you want to get paid the same or more than the other person. It’s our nature. It’s human. So, when I go workout in the morning at ASI on Patewood and I look at the other people in the group, I’m no longer fooling myself. It’s a competition. And yes, I will work harder than the other guys, because at the end of the day I want to bury them! :) Thanks Jason for helping me see if this way. It’s really helped in my workout.
