Sand? You want me to throw bags of sand?!?

Have you been watching the Biggest Loser?  This past week the players had to flip a coin and the toss decided if they were going to stay with their current trainer or go to the other.  The players hated it and the drama unfolded with all the men crying (cue sad music).  Then, when the weigh in happened, everyone dropped a good chunk of weight.  So, I’m sure they will be cool with their new trainers now.

A new trainer…a new style….a new kind of workout.  These things are good!  A few weeks ago, after working with Renee King at the Life Center in Simpsonville, I was moved over to ASI to start a new phase in my workout.

Phase 1: get as much weight off as we could.

Phase 2: to tighten and cut.

I’m working with DJ Johnson from ASI (Acceleration Sports Institute) and the workout is VERY different than what I was doing at the Life Center.

Almost every day I do some form of core workout and cardio.  ASI has an indoor mini football field and I spend a lot of time running up and down the artificial turf!  Very little weight lifting-a whole lot of different workouts that require me to do several different muscle groups at the same time.  For example, the other day I put on boxing gloves, hit the bag for 60 seconds and then took off running for 100 yards!  Several sets-throwing combinations of jabs, crosses and hooks.  huh?  Or how about tethering me to a pole and making me run to the trainer, only to be handed a medicine ball as I get sling-shotted back towards the pole.  I then re-group and run to him again only to hand the ball back as I once again get thrown back towards the pole!  3 sets of 12…lol  Sounds like something I might have done in college for the right girl (wink wink).  Ok, how about this one.  Pick up a sand bag to my chest, throw it as far as I can, run over to it, do a push up, pick it back up and throw it as far as I can.  Up and down the football field.  There is no routine in my workout routine!  Its always something different and I always walk out of ASI sweaty.

It’s been fun!  Something about throwing punches or throwing a sand bag…. It’s a great stress reliever.  Sure, it’s still a pain in the butt to wake up at 5:30am to go to the gym.  Once I am there and moving around-I’m glad I got up.  No matter how close I come to crying. lol
