Happy Thanksgiving!

Did you know that the average person consumes about 4000 calories on Thanksgiving!  4000!  Basically, twice as much as you are supposed to consume in a given day.  Me, I’d probably chalk about 2000 of those calories up to pecan pie!  I LOVE PECAN PIE!  It truly is a weakness.  The average piece of pecan pie-about 400 calories a slice.

Look at me, I’m turning into that guy!  The one that annoys everyone else about food.  I hate that guy! lol  Do this, enjoy Thanksgiving with your family.  Enjoy 2nds and 3rds of your favorite foods.  Enjoy passing out in front of the TV while watching football.  Also, enjoy the flavored Tums for the 2 days following!

I will be in Johnson City, Tx this weekend.  Boyhood home of Lyndon B Johnson and Chase Murphy (although his name is on a water tower and mine is not!).  We’re brining Erin to see the family!  She’s very excited and is doing roll call of all the people she’s going to see after she gets off the plane (Gram!  Pa! Michael! Kim!).  So funny!  Also, she’s a word sponge these days-saying everything she hears.  That should be fun!  My family swears A LOT!

26:51

That was my finishing time.  26 minutes and 51 seconds.  Ran it all.  No walking!  It was my first 5k…I didn’t really know what to expect.  I used to run a lot in high school, but it’s been some time since then.  If I was asked to do it again, I’d totally do another one.

While you run, your mind plays tricks on you.  regardless of how much you train or prepare yourself, you’re never quite prepared for that little voice inside of you.  We all have that voice!  It’s the same one that tells you to eat more, workout less and not live up to your potential.  He’s a jerk!  I’m thinking about giving him a name…more on that at a later time.

I had just finished the 2 mile mark on the run and I heard “good job…take a break”.  I heard it loud and clear!  It wasn’t a song on my radio…it was the inner pansy in me.  How do I know it wasn’t the radio?  Because right at the 2 mile marker my stupid armband radio DIED!  You never know how much you miss the station till you cant hear it.  All I heard was the pounding of my feet on the pavement and the heavy breathing I was doing for the last mile and some change.

I actually considered walking a little bit and then….a woman passed me pushing a stroller with 2 kids. LOL!  To my defense, she was in great shape and had one of those running strollers.  It was a sign!  One of the reasons I got on this health kick was for my daughter Erin.  I figured that God might have sent this woman to pass me in a stroller so that I wouldn’t wuss out.  Or maybe i just run so slow that people pushing strollers could pass me? haha!  Either way, I’m calling it a sign!  All in all, I’m proud of myself and will look to improve upon my time for future runs.

The countdown is on for Thanksgiving!  I heard Heidi say on the news this morning that the average person eats 4000 calories on Thanksgiving day!  OMG!  That’s more than twice my daily allowance!  I need to drop a pound or two more before the holiday to give myself a little room to cheat.  mmmmmmm…pecan pie from Texas…..

Run fatboy run!

Tomorrow I run my first 5k.  I know its not the longest run in the world…what like 3.2 miles or something, but still, I’m running in it.  This was one of my goals this year.  I’ve been in radio now for about 13 years and I have yet to actually run in any of these events.  I’ve always donated my time, been the announcer, etc…  But never actually run in one.  It should be fun.  It’s the lungs for life run-for lung cancer.  Christal’s mom died of lung cancer last year…so I’ll be thinking of her when I’m running.

I think I can do it in under 30 minutes.  Right?  When I was in high school, I used to run under 7 minute miles and the other day I timed myself on the treadmill and did 5k in 27 minutes.  I mentioned it to a guy I know at the gym and he squashed my accomplishment by telling me that his 12 year old daughter runs it in 18 minutes.  KIDS!

I’ve pretty much come to the decision that It may take me some time to remove the last few unwanted pounds off my body.  I’m down to 195lbs.  Which is 35lbs in total weight loss.  I’m happy about that, but at the same time I’m thinking “if I could just get below 190lbs”.  The same way I was thinking about getting under 200lbs…  As they say, as you go along, the more you take off the harder it is.  I’m not disappointed, but it was kind fun when I was losing 2-3lbs a week.  Not its a lot less!  The highlights are that I fit loosely into a size 36 pants and I can wear large t-shirts opposed to XL.  They make WAY better clothes for thinner people by the way!

Headed home on Thanksgiving to see the Murphy family in TX.  It’s been a solid 10 years since I’ve been home for Thanksgiving.  The last time my folks saw me I was 230lbs. They should be pretty surprised.  They know I’m doing all this, but people wont really understand unless they see you.  Also, I am prepared to put on some pounds eating my moms cookin!  I know most people think there mom can cook, but you have no idea what good food is till you sit down at mom’s table.  Seriously-she is an awesome cook!  Old school style too!  Put it this way-my dad doesn’t eat store bought bread, he only eats homemade bread.  My mom bakes break every weekend!  She’s amazing!  So, I’ll come back a few pounds heavier than when I left.  I hope the airlines don’t charge me….they charge for everything these days, i wouldn’t be surprised (Sir, your carry on belly weight is gonna cost you)
