This past weekend I painted my daughter’s bedroom. Pushing a roller up and down on the wall and climbing the ladder makes you work some muscles that you don’t usually use. Then I worked out Monday morning. Then I played a double header in softball till 11pm on Monday night. I worked out Tuesday and took off Wednesday because my body was in pain. Last night my left leg-from hip to calf-started hurting. Don’t know why, it just did. I also couldn’t fall asleep till 2:30am…makes for a long day when I wake up at 5am. So, in short, I’ve taken 2 days off from the gym. Looks like I’ll be hitting it hard tomorrow (unless this strange leg pain doesn’t go away). Guess the rest might be good on switching things up with my body? Good news is that I am back to using the 2nd to last hole on my belt and not the 3rd.
Just had to make the switch to the clinical strength deodorant. I’m looking forward to this fall weather so I hope not to look like the sweaty guy at the office. It’s fun to wear fitted shirts these days, but it sucks when you look like someone has thrown a big gulp under each arm. I’ll keep you posted on if this stuff works. Any suggestions?
Today I ran in sand! They added an extra workout zone to ASI on Patewood. Usually, after doing a workout on all the speed flex equipment, we go outside and do some form of running. Well, after a few weeks of construction, they turned the hillside around the facility into another workout zone. A sandy one! There looks to be a few different hills of various lengths that are covered in sand. We went up what I believe to be the middle one today. I was informed that there is a “big kid” hill on the other side. Upon looking at it, it appears that nobody has run up that one yet….yet! The hill is at about a 60 degree angle and the thick sand covers the area-about 20 yards in length. We ran up that hill, then turned to the right on a flat sandy surface and ran to a cone (25-ish yards from where we came up the hill), then ran across the area to another cone that was placed 30-ish yards from the other. We did this 5 times non-stop. Quite the workout! I’m sure my feet will be nice and smooth soon!
It’s great when they change it up. Just when your body seems to get into some sort of routine-you throw some sandy hills at it. I’m looking forward to Thursday’s workout. I’m bringing my Dora the explorer pail and shovel to make some sweet sand castles.
PS-I tweet about my workouts from time to time…@chaseb937.
I have ugly feet….Dont think I have all of these things. lol Still, sometimes your feet say more than you know.

The other day I worked out and only burned 500 calories. This is a big miss since I’m used to pulling around 800 per workout. In non-workout related terms, thats about 3 bud lights worth of difference! lol Turns out my body was too beat up to go kick into the next level. On Saturday I helped a friend move for 6 hours, did a bunch of stuff around the house on Sunday and then worked out Monday morning AND THEN played a softball game that night. By the time Tuesday came around, my body was wrecked. I guess rest is important huh? I was given orders not to workout on Wednesday, so that my body could rest. Worked out well for Wednesday-I almost hit 800 calories. Guess I’m back to normal. Hard to believe I went from not doing enough a little over a year ago to overworking. And yes, I’ll be hitting the gym Friday morning….dont worry, I dont plan on doing anything major this weekend.
The other night, singer/performer/songwriter Jason Derulo came by the station to have dinner with us and to talk about what he’s doing in music. He sings the song “Whatcha Say”. We were discussing many topics, but one that we talked the most about was our workouts. He is in great shape. Like the cover of GQ magazine shape. He watches every calorie that goes into his body and does some crazy stuff in the gym. Where I only do an hour a day-he works out 2-3 hours a day. He does it to look good for videos and such….I do it so I don’t get fat. lol
I was talking about working out with a group of people and how I try not to make it a competition. He turned to me and said “Chase, don’t fool yourself, it’s a competition”. He was right. It is. You look at the progress of others and measure yourself to that progress. Nobody wants to be the slowest runner of lift the lightest weight. We all want to be the best…and if you don’t, you never will be. It’s like making money-if you do the same job as someone else-you want to get paid the same or more than the other person. It’s our nature. It’s human. So, when I go workout in the morning at ASI on Patewood and I look at the other people in the group, I’m no longer fooling myself. It’s a competition. And yes, I will work harder than the other guys, because at the end of the day I want to bury them! :) Thanks Jason for helping me see if this way. It’s really helped in my workout.
Heading to the place where my wife grew up…the rock! I used to work there. I think it was for about 11 months and then I left and moved to Charleston, Sc. I dont have too many fond memories of the town honestly. I was poor and was at a pretty miserable radio job at the time. I was fresh out of college at the time and away from Texas for the first time on my own. I managed to make a few friends and find a girl named Christal who later became my wife. Hence why we will be heading there this week. It will be fun in some ways…1) I’m not poor anymore 2) Im thinner now. This group of friends have not seen the “new Chase” body yet. Im about 30lbs lighter than when I visited last, so it should be fun. With the workout I am doing at ASI on Patewood, I’m starting to put on some muscle weight…you can see viens in my arms and stuff lol. So I look the part of a guy who goes to the gym 5 times a week I guess, but I would still like to lose a few more pounds this summer. Maybe the heat of August will help? Certainly not all the BBQ I plan on eating while I am there! Come Monday, I need to get serious about counting the calories again.
It seems like almost every other workout at ASI these days involves pull ups. Lifting weight above my head…no problem. Push ups? Sure-for days! Lat pull downs-yep can do those with no problem. There is just something about pulling your whole body up high enough to get your chin above the bar that just sucks. I can do maybe 5 unassisted and then I need help. Some people can do pull ups and some cant I guess? I revert back to Jr High days when doing them. I’ve been doing them 3-4 times a week in hopes of getting better at them. This is one place where the small framed, skinny guys have the advantage. The can do them no problem! Just thinking about them makes the inner fat kid in me cringe!
I’m having issues with sweat. Sounds funny right? After about 4 years with the same deodorant, I find myself looking for a new one. I finally get to a place in life where I’ve lost enough weight and toned up to where I feel comfortable about wearing tighter shirts and then suddenly….I’m the sweat pits guy. Not smelly- just sweaty. I had my wife Christal pick up another brand to see if that would help. I get dressed the other morning and walk downstairs to hug and kiss my family goodbye and my daughter Erin says “Daddy, why is your shirt wet”. It was the pits….within 5 minutes of putting the shirt on I’m sweaty pits guy again! What gives!?!
So this morning I got dressed and put on…wait for it…my wife’s Secret deodorant. Umm and so far it’s working. Strong enough for a man, but PH balanced or a woman! Any ideas? What’s working for you?
I love how any of us can rationalize eating almost anything. “I walked 2 miles today so I deserve the largest burger on the menu”. “I took the stairs so I’m going to eat a 24oz milkshake”. lol You know we all do it. I’ve been doing it lately too. Ever since I started to workout at ASI on Patewood, I’ve not done a great job of counting calories. I’m SUPPOSED to be eating around 1800 per day. I’m probably eating closer to 2500 per day! BAD BAD BAD! My last few workouts at ASI have been killer. I’ve averaged over 700 calories per workout and recently I broke the all time calorie record that I set the week before. I hit 850 calories burned the other morning within an hour! It’s pretty cool when the doctors and trainers brag about you! Yet, its not reason enough to over eat every day. I’m not gaining weight, but I’m not losing any. I’d like to drop 7 more pounds before the end of the summer. This is where losing weight gets more difficult. It’s easier when you got more to drop, but now your body tends to hang onto these pounds for some reason. Oh yeah, throw in the fact that my house has all sorts of snack foods because my wife is pregnant! I’m not helping the situation when I eat more than I should. It’s a challenge….I know I’m not alone in this.
